FAQs
The Mela runs from January 3rd to February 15th, 2026. The most auspicious days are the “Shahi Snan” (Royal Bathing) dates like Makar Sankranti (Jan 14) and Mauni Amavasya (Jan 18). However, if you want to avoid massive crowds and have a peaceful darshan, we recommend visiting on non-bathing dates (regular weekdays).
No private vehicles are allowed right up to the riverbank. During normal days, our cab will drop you as close as permitted (usually near the Mela entry). On main bathing dates (Snan Parv), police restrict vehicles 2-4 km away from the Sangam. You will need to walk or use local e-rickshaws/shuttles to reach the ghats.
Yes, we make every effort to make it comfortable. However, guests must be physically fit enough to walk some distance (1-2 km) on sandy terrain, as vehicles have restricted access. We recommend carrying a walking stick and warm clothing for the elderly.
You can choose between a Deluxe Hotel in the city (concrete building with all amenities) or a Luxury Swiss Camp near the Mela ground (tents with attached western toilets and beds). Swiss Camps offer a more authentic spiritual experience closer to the river.
Yes, millions of people take the dip safely. We provide a private boat that takes you to the cleaner, deeper part of the Sangam (confluence). Life jackets are mandatory and provided by the boatman. We recommend taking the dip during the day when the sun is out if you are sensitive to the cold.
As per the sanctity of the Magh Mela, we serve only pure Vegetarian (Satvik) meals. Consumption of alcohol and non-vegetarian food is strictly prohibited in the Mela area and within our package arrangements.
We strongly recommend booking at least 30 days in advance. Hotels and camps get sold out very quickly for the main bathing dates in January.
Yes, the government sets up temporary changing rooms for women at the ghats. However, if you take the boat ride included in our package, you can often change on the boat (using a temporary curtain setup) or return to your camp/hotel to change comfortably.
